International Museum Day 2012

In celebration of the International Museum Day 2012, ICOM Philippines will present a series of events co-organized with the local government and supported by the national agency, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and the private sector:

 

In Cebu City, May 18-19
The municipal government will pass a Resolution declaring May 18, 2012 a day when entrance is free to all public and private museums located in Cebu City. This is to give people from all walks of life access to historical and cultural heritage; and to strengthen their sense of place, Cebuano Identity and love for country.

On May 19, a tour of some of the city’s heritage buildings, landmarks and streets, as well as a visit to the Cebu City Museum, is also conducted with the support of the City government to promote discovery of, and interest in local history.

As ICOM Philippines Secretariat is based in the University of San Carlos University Museum at the heart of Cebu City, the IMD program of social events for the city’s museum community hosted by the City Mayor, includes a formal presentation of ICOM Philippines by its President Gina Barte.

 

In Manila, May 25
ICOM Philippines will host press conferences/fora on ICOM. Venue is set tentatively at the historic district of Intramuros, Manila and at the newly built Museo Maritimo, Asian Institute of Maritime Studies along Roxas Blvd., Manila, fronting the historic and world-famous Manila Bay.

 

ICOM Philippines’ affiliate organizations, supported by their respective local government units and the national government through the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) will likewise organize events all over the country to mark the occasion on the following dates:

May 9-11 – Tabaco City, Albay, Luzon Islands, Northern Philippines
May 16-17 – Dasmariñas, Cavite, Luzon Islands, Northern Philippines
May 18-19 – Cebu City, Cebu, Visayas Islands, Central Philippines
May 24-25 – Aparri, Cagayan, Luzon Islands, Northern Philippines
May 25-27 – Davao City, Mindanao, Mindanao Islands, Southern Philippines
May 25-27 – Bago City, Negros Occidental, Visayas Islands, Central Philippines
